Fall Festivities To Try This Week!

Is everyone excited for Thanksgiving Break this week?! I am..I'll admit I'm much more of a Christmas person and began putting up a few lights and snowglobes out a few weeks ago lol! But because the rest of you guys probably dont skip straight to Christmas like I do lol I put together a list of a few fun activities you can do over the break.

Get Moving:
For most people holidays mean A LOT of food. Make sure during this time you try to stay active a few times a week.

Whether you like to go to nail salons or treat yourself to a mini-pamper session at home. Treating yourself to a manicure is a great activity. You can check out some of my fall Mani-Monday's here and here.

Spoil Your Skin:
Fall means weather changes. Make sure you're giving your skin and lips some extra TLC. Check out my First Impression of a great balm here

Be Thankful:
There are so many things to be thankful for EVERY SINGLE DAY! During the holidays we're more open with our gratitude, take a moment to think about things that are going right for you. Here's a few simple ones we can all agree on..

First things first, I have always hated chapstick!! You couldn't pay me to wear chapstick, carmex, burts bees, etc!! I feel that they tend to flake, I never like the scent, that make my lips feel weird and u have to re-apply them all the time!! *breathes* I love this product and have been using it for a while now. I was irritated when I first got it as my "free gift," because I wanted a shower gel instead and in fact didn't touch it for a while haha because I really had my heart set on that gel!

Simple Ways to Relax

Pin It I wanted to share some simple things we can do to lift our moods on days you may be feeling down. These take little to no time at all and don't cost a thing, so when you need a boost in spirits try these:

  • Take a shower. Wash the bad day away. Years ago I made it a habit to shower with a few candles lit, it is so incedibly relaxing, and conserves energy! 
  • Eat healthy. Fat, & junk food filled foods make us tired and lazy. Opt for a smoothie, some fruit, or granola to keep your body fueled.
  • Get moving. Exercise in the privacy of your home or take a quick walk. You can even get light exercise from gardening, and cleaning.
  • Get some sun/fresh air. This goes with the above. I like to go in my backyard for a few moments, sweep, check on the plants, etc. I'm also a huge fan of natural light. I'm always saying that gloomy days make me exhausted so on sunny days I make sure to open the blinds and let the light in, it instantly brightens my spirits.
  • Spend the afternoon baking. This works for me, I've included one of my dishes below. =)

  • Browse your favorite websites. Of course this is one my favs lol.
  • Take a deep breath. Calm yourself down and de-stress.
  • Fill a room with fresh flowers. Whenever I have flowers I'm happy each time I look at them, they add some color and brighten up the room.
  • Play with your pet. They love you unconditionally, show them the same.

Facts: I have owned many black polishes it's actually one of my favorite colors, and in my opinion, unless it has a shimmer to it, the nail color is standard. Therefore for my readers on a budget you can make the decision of purchasing any black be it a shade by MAC, OPI, or Wet n'Wild or even the polishes  found at your local dollar store! Just make sure to throw on a base coat and top coat and you're good to go =)

My First Impression of MAC's "Mineralize Skinfish Natural," or MSFN(including photos & swatches).
I went to the counter knowing my shade, my desired effect, the prices, my top choice (MSFN), and MOST IMPORTANTLY, not wanting to be sold things I wasn't there for LOL. I was looking for a setting powder similar to one of my other favs by a different brand that I wasn't willing to spend over $40 on, it needed to be light coverage, non-dewy, and photo well. My research and the clerk both agreed my best bet would be the Mineralize SkinFinish.
But we all know, research is one thing, taking it home and trying it out is another...

We've been experiencing a heat-wave the last few months. I don't know about the rest of you but when my car is telling me it's 100* I'm far from a fan of that weather, and do everything in my power to stay inside, stay hydrated, and stay cool!

6 Benefits of Hydrogen Peroxide
  1. Clean your counters with peroxide to kill germs & add a fresh smell
  2. Do the same after rinsing your wooden cutting board (kills salmonella and other bacteria)
  3. Laundry: Add a cup to your 'whites' in lieu of bleach (some people use in addition to bleach) to whiten whites
  4. Natural highlights: Spray a 50/50(water & HP mixture) on wet hair after a shower, comb through for gradual lightening
  5. Mix with baking soda to form an inexpensive DIY whitening toothpaste
  6. Soak/wash vegetables to kill bacteria and neutralize chemials
There are many more suggested uses and theories as to the benefits of hydrogen peroxide, the above are some I've found to be tried and true!

Our little man needed some new things to keep him occupied. As cute and cuddly as we all THINK they are, they can turn into little monsters without something to focus their energy and attention. :-/

The first thing I purchased was a new bed. One night he decided to make a head-hole(that's right a hole he could stick his head through) in his old bed, so he was in need of a new one.

He gave it a tail wag up (get it, like a thumbs up!) LOL..I don't have a link for you guys but here's a VERY COOL BED for those of you with bigger pups

Other Ways to Use a Toothbrush

A toothbrush is definately considered one of my 'staple' tools, not only for keeping those 'pearly whites,' white, but they can be used for makeup, hair, around the house etc. Here's a few ways you can use yours:

1. Flatten flyaways ( hair)
2. Exfoliate chapped lips (beauty)
3. Clean grout & shower corners(household)
4. Grooming eyebrows (beauty)
5. Clean appliance vents (household)

Obviously you don't want to use the one you brush your teeth with ;) so make sure to pick one up here or at your local store.

DIY: Baking Soda Uses

For smooth, radiant skin, give yourself a gentle facial and body scrub.  Make a paste of 3 parts Baking Soda to 1 part water. Rub in a circular motion to exfoliate skin and remove dead skin cells. Rinse. Gentle enough for daily use!
**Enhance by including 1 part ground oatmeal.  Leaves skin feeling nourished and refreshed.
Add 1/2 cup of baking soda to laundry, it helps remove grease stains from clothing & can keep whites whiter.
  1. Place an open box of baking soda in your refridgerator to absorb smells
  2. Liberally sprinkle baking soda on top of the trash.
  3. Cleaning:
  1. Scour the sinks **May add vinegar to improve the shine of stainless steel
  2. Bathtub-instead of using harsh cleaning products **Really good for smaller bathrooms with less ventilation
